Job or Business decide by yourself - Chetan Bhagat

Bombay meri jaan....It was my regular train journey home from work.
I boarded the 18:50pm train from Church Gate.
When the train was about to leave Marinelines,
A samosa vendor with an empty basket got on and took
the seat next to me.
As the compartment was sparsely occupied and my
destination was still far away,
I got into a conversation with him.
Me: "Seems like you've sold all your samosas today."
Vendor (smiling): "Yes. By God's grace, full sales today."
Me: "I really feel sorry for you people. Don't you get tired doing
This tiresome job the whole day?"
Vendor: "What to do, sir? Only by selling samosas like this every day do
We get a commission of 75 paise for each samosa that we sell."
Me: "Oh, is that so ? How many samosas do you sell on an average each day?"
Vendor: "On peak days, we sell 4,000 to 5,000 samosas per day.
On an average, we sell about 3,000 samosas a day."
I was speechless.....for a few seconds.
The guy says he sells 3,000 samosas a day; at 75 paise each,
He makes about 2,000 rupees daily, or 60,000 rupees a month.
That's Rs. 60,000 a month. OMG.
I intensified my questioning and this time it was not for time pass.
Me: "Do you make the samosas yourself?"
Vendor: "No Sir. we gets the samosas through a samosa manufacturer
And we just sell them. After selling we give him the money
And gives us 75 paise for each samosa that we sell."
I was unable to speak a single word more but the vendor continued...
"But one thing...most of our earnings are spent on living expenses.
Only with the remaining money are we able to take care of other business."
Me: "Other business? What is that?"
Vendor: "It is a land business. In 2007 I bought 1.5 acres in
Palghar for 10 lakh rupees and I sold it a few months back for 60 lakhs.
Now I have bought land in umroli for 20 lakh rupees."
Me: "What did you do with the remaining amount?
Vendor: "Of the remaining amount,
I have set aside 20 lakhs for my daughter's wedding.
I have deposited the other 20 lakhs in the bank."
Me: "How much schooling have you had?"
Vendor: "I studied up to third standard;
I stopped my studies when I was in the 4th standard.
But I know how to read and write.
Sir, there are many people like yourself,
Who dress well, wear a tie, wear shoes,
Speak English fluently and work in air-conditioned rooms.
But I don't think you guys earn as much
As we do wearing dirty clothes and selling samosas."
At this point, what could I reply. After all, I was talking to a
Millionaire! The train chugged into khar station
And the samosa vendor got up from his seat.
Vendor: "Sir, this is my station...have a good day."
Me: "Take care.".
Welcome to the real world

Top 10 Odd Yet Wonderful Linux Distros

Linux is simple, engaging and creative. Here I present top 10 most weird Linux distros that are must-try for Linux lovers.

We have heard so often about the regular (and popular) Linux distros. But there are some wacky yet interesting Linux distributions out there. I bring to you 10 of the best, weird but most useful distributions that Linux offers, and why should you use them.

1) Red Star OS
Red Star OS is being developed as the officially approved operating system of North Korea, seemingly on the request of Kim Jong-Il, who is the country's leader. Based on the familiar KDE 3.x, it has added touches such as the Woodpecker antivirus software and the Pyongyang Fortress firewall.

2) MuLinux
This is a small distro, perhaps in the same vein as Puppy or Damn Small Linux. MuLinux needs 20MB hard disk space and 4MB RAM, and will be powered by an Intel 80386 processor or advanced version. Mu might lag behind in terms of productivity if you compare it with modern machines, but if you own a 25-year-old machine that you want to save from the waste, it's certainly the distro you should try.

3) Ubuntu Satanic Edition
Ubuntu sequels are ten-a-penny, but it seems the creators of Ubuntu SE have gone overboard to please The Dark One. The dark theme and assortment of background images is the most apparent change, but sound effects and startup jingle have also been altered.

4) GoboLinux
This one is meant for techies and what distinguishes GoboLinux from the rest is its filesystem layout. Majority of Linux distros use an ancient non-arrangement wherein an application's files are speckled around your hard drive in multiple folders. GoboLinux implements an OS X-like approach and stores all files linked with an application in a single folder in /Programs.

5) GNewSense
Those, who like software freedom, would like GNewSense. The distro is based on Ubuntu, but has removed all non-free software, such as those devious non-free driver files that are loaded into the Linux kernel. Unluckily, majority of these blobs are actually drivers for wireless networking cards, so it’s perhaps not the best distro for laptops. If you look at the plus side, distro has removed or renamed software that doesn't fall in the Free Software Foundation's definition of freedom.

6) Sabily/Ubuntu Christian Edition
Previously termed as Ubuntu Islamic Remix, Sabily is actually Ubuntu with extra Islam. It has adopted an Islamic theme with so much green, even the Applications menu has been extended to embrace a selection of Quran study/prayer-time software, Ubuntu Christian Edition has religious study tools and enhanced web filtering.

7) Yellow Dog
First released in the late 90s for Apple PCs, it was based on the PowerPC chip architecture. Yellow Dog was liked by people who wanted a way to think differently. Then, Apple deserted PowerPC in support of Intel chips, which are still being used. Yellow Dog re-invented itself after a change of ownership as an OS to deliver high-performance multicore computing experience.

8) Mikebuntu
This distro is packed on the free DVD with additional PDFs and software, along with extra desktop environments and plenty of options.

9) Gentoo
Gentoo - or Linux For Masochistsis is probably the distro that will not be liked by sluggish majority for the simple fact that you have to hoard it yourself. Not just apps, rather the whole thing, including the kernel of your recent distro is taken for granted by majority of peple. So, go and grab a cup of coffee before you try to install it.

10) Scientific Linux
Windows has continued to dominate the desktop as Linux doesn’t seem up to the job technically. But, the fact can be easily contested by the cleverest people on the Earth- the scientists who are looking for clues about the beginning of the universe. They use Scientific Linux at the CERN laboratories, which is based on Red Hat. Virtually, anyone can download and install this distro on their machine

THE LIST OF THE BEST PLACES TO START A BUSINESS IN INDIA

India is a vast country. It has diversity in language, food and culture. People in the Northern part of the country are very different from tradition and culture of the people based in southern area. It also has drastic difference in the weather, in the northern most point we have cold Himalayas where as there is warm desert and deep blue sea on the other side. Life and culture of the people residing here is highly controlled by such weather and natural features. Hence once you have planned about a business in India, you must understand your target audience clearly and based on their taste you should decide the place.

Generally, if you have an FMCG (fast moving consumer good) item, then you can position it in all 7 metros. You may plan for location wise launch for e.g. north during first three months of the year then east, west and finally south. Plan your business according to your pocket. First frame a budget plan for the launch campaign and then move ahead with such activity.

You can start your business in Calcutta, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune or Ahmedabad as per your preference, money and off course on your market research. Know about the city and its people very well before starting a business. If you know people and have known the work culture for ages, then also you need help for getting the license from the government offices and understand the accounts well. These are the backbone of any business. You need license first, then money and then customers to move your product or services.

Although apparently it seems that metros are the bet place to start the business, yet if you want to start a small business and have focused expectation from your money invested. You can start from any town or even a village. Suppose your product is an emergency light. Then you may establish your factory and business in a middle level town, where load shedding is a regular problem and people looks for economic products. It is here if you establish your business and manufacture the product also in the factory, the residents will have faith in your product and will also avail product on economic rate. Finally establish you’re after sale service properly so that they can rely on your service and boost your sale.

Starting a business is not an easy task. A lot of things must be kept in mind before planning out. One such main point is the right selection of the city. Therefore, as said earlier, depending on your nature and product or services of the business you must select the place. Do not forget the budget part. If you can plan for an all India based launch campaign, you may go for it. Otherwise, if you plan for any small scale business, then your product is your key to success. Check out the need of that product or services in the daily life on the people residing in that town, and then start its business. It will be accepted easily and comfortably.

Top 10 Brands That Have Made It To Every Corner of the World

Travel is great for broadening the mind, isn’t it? Seeing different cultures, experiencing different foods, knowing that you’re miles away from the nearest McDonalds. Or maybe not – global expansion of certain brands has been so successful that you can be thousands of miles away from America and still be able to enjoy the comforts of home. So, who is the most successful? Which popular brands can you find on sale in the depths of the Belize jungle? Find out in our Top 10 Brands That Have Made It To Every Corner of the World.

10. Starbucks

Peru is notable for many things, but one thing it is known for is its coffee production. Small farmers produce the beans there that are shipped all over the world. So, you’d expect that when you needed a shot of caffeine in Lima , there would be a host of locally-owned coffee shops to choose from. Well, there probably are but there are also a number of branches of Starbucks. In fact, within a few kilometers of Miraflores (a suburb of Lima), there are 8 outlets. And that’s just one example of Starbucks’ worldwide grip – the brand can also be found in 18 European countries, all the major Asian countries and Australia and New Zealand. Oh and Africa, the Middle East and other parts of South America. With a presence on every continent, you are never far from that green mermaid thing...

9. Nike

With the secretive government of China, it can be difficult for American brands to break into the market. But one sportswear brand decided to “Just Do It”. And they were successful – Nike has made its home on Nanjing Xi Lu, Shanghai, and is the country’s number one sportswear brand. They have apparently done this by “listening to the voice of the Chinese athlete and then applying creative design and technology to meet their needs.” What they don’t mention is that sales are falling in China, although they still dominate the market.
But that’s not the whole extent of Nike’s global presence – they also have headquarters in Japan and the Netherlands, which cover their whole EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) operation. It’s reassuring to know that their “creative design and technology” is reaching everyone who needs it. The less said about the people making those shoes in the same countries the better…

8. Nestle

And while we’re skirting around the issue of big brands in developing countries, here’s Nestle – a brand that has undoubtedly achieved global domination, but with some devastating side effects. A quick glance at their global map reveals how many countries the company works in, and their website talks about their business principles of adding value to the communities they work in, and  saying things like “Our core aim is to enhance the quality of consumers lives every day, everywhere by offering tastier and healthier food and beverage choices and encouraging a healthy lifestyle”. Funnily enough, there is no mention of the aggressive marketing of breastmilk substitutes in developing countries that led to an international boycott.
But as far as success in spreading the brand goes, Nestle can certainly claim credit. You can’t go anywhere in the world without seeing their chocolate and their logo is globally recognized. Whether they can truly claim to be “the world’s leading nutrition, health and wellness company” is another question!

7. Ford

Suppose I wanted to buy a car on the island of Madagascar, where would I buy one? Assuming I wasn’t busy being distracted by all the talking animals, I would probably head to Antananarivo, where I would find a Ford dealership. After all, it’s good to buy a car from a known brand if you want to be assured of quality. Say I was in Sweden, where would I go? Maybe Ford again. Or Darussalam, Brunei? Same again.
Not content with revolutionising the manufacturing business by inventing the production line, the Ford Motor Company has expanded to every continent and even the most obscure countries. Surprisingly for such an expansive brand, the company has steered clear of controversy, concentrating instead of just making reliable, unexciting cars. However, the Ford family, now minor shareholders in the business, have had more than enough controversy to compensate…allegedly

6. Pepsi

It may not be the most recognized soft drink in the world (more on that later…) but there’s no denying Pepsi’s global influence, with their product available everywhere from Alaska to Australia. But success comes at a price, and the brand has got into trouble in India for using an excessive amount of groundwater, in areas where water is a scarce commodity. Still reeling from that scandal, a second scandal broke, accusing Pepsi of allowing pesticide residue into their sodas. Pepsi was banned in Kerala (along with Coca-Cola) and there were protests in the streets, with bottles of Pepsi being smashed by angry protesters. In response, the brand has launched a number of PR initiatives in India, including a drive to create “a positive water balance”. The efforts are slowly repairing Pepsi’s reputation, but other countries must be watching the company with suspicion…

5. Apple

Not all global brands reach worldwide saturation by their own doing. Apple has the dubious honor of being one of the faked brands in the world, with China being a particular hotspot for counterfeit iMacs, iPads that are a touch too small and Louis Vuitton covered iPhones. In Taiwan, they even have a fake Steve Jobs (above), selling tea on TV. And Iraq has its own fake Apple store, which looks nothing like a real Apple store.
In some ways it’s all a compliment- it means that your brand is so recognisable that something just has to be sleek and white for it to be identified as an Apple product, even if it’s missing its logo. On the other hand, it’s a legal department’s nightmare and Apple has a team working on stopping the counterfeits, but it’s fairly futile. Meanwhile, the real Apple stores have made it across Europe and to Japan and China, so they are well on the way to world domination themselves.

4. Microsoft

But Apple still have a way to go before they catch up with Microsoft. The mega-corporation has offices in around 150 countries all over the world, from Azerbaijan to Zambia, who come together at their Worldwide Partner Conference (see above). And those are only the offices – the products have a much greater reach. You would have to find some pretty undiscovered tribes to find someone who had never encountered a Microsoft program in any form.
As such a huge player in the global market, it has come under criticism and been accused of monopolizing the market, a charge it’s hard to argue with. But Microsoft also have some community-based projects to try and enhance the areas they’re expanding into, such as its Microsoft 4Afrika project. So they do some good, but they are definitely a force to be reckoned with.

3. BBC

While Microsoft is a relatively new player in the global market, the authoritative tones of the BBC have been reaching the far corners of the world for almost a century. As a kind of hangover from the days of the British Empire, people all over the world still like their news to be delivered in a British accent, and BBC World News goes out to Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and America. But there are worldwide specialist channels too, such as BBC Canada and BBC Persian (above).
Part of this global domination is because the BBC is forbidden to show adverts in the UK, and it relies on license fee payers to fund its programming. Abroad, however, there are no such restrictions and they can also export successful UK shows in slightly different formats (so “Strictly Come Dancing” became “Dancing with the Stars”). It may be definitively British, but apparently Britisher sells..!

2. Coca-Cola

But, of course, the biggest brands on the list are American. One of the most iconic brands in the world, Coca-Cola can be found everywhere. It can even be drunk in the jungles of Belize, as the family that owns Coca-Cola in Belize have a jungle lodge there, called Chan Chich where you can, naturally, drink Coke (although at $25 for a burger and Diet Coke you may not want to!)
Coca-Cola aren’t just content with caffeinating the world – they also feel responsible for global happiness, with their happiness barometer (above). According to their findings, “More than half of the people surveyed (56%) cited the taste of Coca-Cola as something that makes them smile”. So, the future happiness of the world is in safe hands – reassuring, hey?

1. McDonalds

There’s nothing quite like a McDonalds. If by that you mean, nothing that is so uniform around the world then no, there is nothing quite like it. True, some branches have subtle differences, but a Big Mac is a Big Mac wherever you buy it, even if the price varies considerably – in the Ukraine, you would pay just $1.83 for the delicacy. If you’re looking for your McFix, there are over 34,000 outlets worldwide in 123 countries. For Americans everywhere, it’ll make you feel right at home. There’s even one in Guantanamo Bay, although sadly it’s only open to base personnel. A true lesson in world domination.
